Situated Strategies LLC is a founder support concierge in Albany, New York. One founder, a research discipline that turned out to be the right one for the job, and six launches of her own to show for it.
The founder
Olivia S. Mata
Olivia is a Ph.D. candidate in Communication at the University at Albany, SUNY, where she earned her B.A. in 2018 and her M.A. in 2020. Her research is in ethnomethodology and conversation analysis: the close study, from recordings of real interaction, of how people get things done together.
She has a day job, a doctorate in progress and a company. By day she's a software implementation specialist for restaurants, which means walking into a busy kitchen with a new system and making sure the staff can use it on the first try. There is no training budget and no patience for a second attempt, and that is the standard every Situated Strategies build is held to.
She founded Situated Strategies in October 2025 and has since launched six products of her own under it: an expense-sharing app, a reward app, a moving-kit business, a practice app for hard conversations, an open-source developer tool, and a senior dog care tracker still in progress. Each one meant registering a domain, setting up email, building a site, getting into an app store or a payment processor, and writing the privacy page. She has done the whole checklist herself, six times over.

Situated Strategies starts by looking, because what people say they do and what they actually do are different things, and software built on the first one fails.
Ethnomethodology is the study of the methods ordinary people use to make their everyday activities orderly and recognisable to each other. Conversation analysis grew out of it and applies it to real interaction, recorded and studied in close detail. Together they come down to a working rule: trust the record over the report. Watch the order come in and the customer call. The business is in those details.
For a founder, the first conversation is about how things already happen, not about features. The roadmap separates what the project should have from what it merely could have, because most of the could items solve problems nobody has. And the build is tested the restaurant way: can the person who'll actually use it succeed without being taught?
It also means Olivia's academic field is spelled out on this site, not hinted at. The method is the differentiator, and it works best when it's named. The longer version, with sources.

Situated Strategies is a New York limited liability company, formed in October 2025 and run from Albany.
In-person discovery sessions happen in Albany and around the Capital Region, which is where Olivia has lived and worked for over a decade. Everything else, from roadmaps to handoff calls, works over video and email, so founders anywhere can work with her the same way.
Every product in the portfolio ships under the LLC, with its support inbox reaching Olivia. That's the same arrangement clients get: a real person on the other end, who built the thing and can explain it.
